Description

This is a restorative justice procedure that proposes meetings between victims and offenders (violent crimes or crimes against property) to discuss the crimes committed and their consequences and implications for the future, with the aim of resolving the conflict under the mediation of a police facilitator.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that participants in the treatment group had a lower rate of violent crime and a higher rate of drunk driving when compared to the control group, which did not receive the intervention. No statistically significant differences were observed in shoplifting and property crime rates [1].
