Description

This is a long-term family support program. Families are monitored in their homes by a trained professional and are linked by means of referrals from healthcare services, which provide care for pregnant women or women with young children who are involved in community treatment services.
The program encourages maternal and child healthcare, early childhood education, mental health care, parent training, and vocational training.

Impact evaluations

An impact assessment showed that the program had a significant effect on alcohol abuse by women during pregnancy – consumption, which was 83.6%, fell to 4% – while in the control group the difference was 90.5% to 33% [1].
Another study showed that 15% of participants who completed the program relapsed into drug abuse during the follow-up period, compared to 50% of those who dropped out earlier and 61% of those who dropped out later [2].
