Description

This is an educational and vocational training program for young people over 16 years of age, male and moderate risk, placed in a correctional institution. The objective is to provide academic and vocational training and improve social and living skills.
The program has two components:
1) Educational, in which individualized interventions are implemented under constant monitoring of performance and adherence.
2) Vocational, where operational skills are trained, and paid employment is offered.
The intervention also includes a voluntary social reintegration component, which provides vocational counseling and community assistance after return to the community.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that participants who received the intervention were statistically more likely to obtain some school training compared to non-participants. However, there were no significant differences in any arrest, for any offense in general, or arrest for specific offenses, nor in rates of employability, length of employment, or enrollment in higher education [1].
