Description

This is a program to monitor adults with substance use problems and a history of multiple offenses/contraventions. Its objective is to reduce criminal behavior and recidivism, improve the well-being of participants, and increase public safety.
The intervention has a minimum duration of 24 months for felony cases and 18 months for serious misdemeanor cases. The actions carried out involve treatment, transition, welfare, and return to the community, as well as judicial sessions.

Impact evaluations

The impact evaluation of the program showed that, after two years of follow-up, participants had a significantly lower average (33%) for new incarcerations compared to offenders who experienced the traditional judicial process. The study had a quasi-experimental design [1].
