This is a school support and case management program for students with high absenteeism rates who have been tracked down by community councils or juvenile courts. The aim is to increase school attendance and improve academic performance.
The intervention involves working with the family and community services to create a network to encourage students to return to school. The school program’s community councils together with the students and their families discuss school attendance laws, the obstacles to access, and the legal consequences of truancy, and outline a formal agreement aimed at strategies to increase school attendance.
The student also takes part in meetings with specialists from the ninth grade onwards to assess and collect information on their level of risk, vulnerability, physical and mental health, and social and emotional skills.
