Description

This is a community-based family support program for teenage mothers aged 13 to 17 and their children from 0 to 2 years old. The objective is to prevent repeat pregnancy and school dropout by teenage mothers, as well as to improve parenting and study skills, and the personal development of mothers and babies.
The program offers educational and family and community support services. Participants are referred by hospital professionals when they attend prenatal visits. Program components include home visits, crisis interventions, bimonthly parenting education classes, supervised medical care, transportation services, recreational opportunities, and legal representation services.
The program has a recommended duration of six months of case management and a minimum of two years of participation in additional services.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that adolescents served by the program were significantly less likely to have a new pregnancy or drop out of school than those in the control group [1].
