Description

This is a school program that caters to low-income elementary school students with two or three years of school failure.
The school offers an extended school year (210 days) with expanded shifts, after-school tutoring, and additional Saturday classes. Students spend an average of more than ten hours a day at school, which is a 20% increase in the typical school day.
In the classroom, emphasis is placed on mastering basic skills: literacy and mathematics. Art, science, and other courses are also offered outside of school hours. The school provides students with free medical, dental, and mental health services, and, upon selection, all students undergo regular check-ups.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that students in sixth to eighth grades who attended the program obtained statistically significant improvements in their math and English grades, and a reduction in the number of absences from school, compared to the students in the control group, who did not take part in the intervention [1].
