Description

This is a community policing initiative strategy aimed at reducing crime and increasing community interactions.
The key elements of the initiative are: accountability, collaboration, decentralization, and problem-solving. Police officers were responsible for crimes in their assigned areas and were evaluated on their problem-solving skills.
They worked with local community representatives to identify recurring problems in the area and implement relevant solutions.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that the intervention resulted in a 43% drop in crime and a 22% drop in property crime at the treatment site, while there was no change in the comparison areas. Drug-related crime decreased at both the treatment and the comparison sites, suggesting that this decline was not associated with the community policing intervention [1].
