This is an institutional partnership program for the provision of evidence-based services in order to offer benefits to the community. It uses the cooperative extension systems of universities to generate instances of community coordination and implement effective prevention programs.
The program offers the community a set of services that includes four school-based prevention programs aimed at families and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 14 to prevent the onset and reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, as well as other problematic behaviors, in adolescence.
The interventions implemented are:
1) “Life Skills for Life”: consists of 15 sessions to promote awareness of substance use and build skills to resist the pressure to consume;
2) Project Alert: consists of 11 sessions to develop skills to resist pressure and a better understanding of the social, emotional, and physical consequences of substance use;
3) “All Stars Programme”: addresses violent behavior in addition to substance use; and
4) Strengthening Families Program: offered to parents of adolescents with the goal of promoting substance use management and improving understanding of the social, emotional, and physical consequences associated with substance use.
