Description

This is a residential alternative measure program with treatment and services for individuals with drug abuse problems who have completed six months of follow-up. The aim is to offer an alternative to imprisonment for offenders with substance use problems, treat addiction, and develop social and emotional skills.
The intervention is carried out in transition houses and provides treatment for alcohol and other drug abuse, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with training in decision-making skills, teaching prosocial values, educational activities, vocational guidance, and community services.
Participants must meet the following prerequisites:
1) Not having a sentence of more than two years;
2) Being under the age of 35; and
3) Not having been convicted for violent crimes or drug trafficking.
The program lasts at least three months and involves family members and probation officers.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed no statistically significant effect of the program on criminal recidivism rates [1].
