Description

This is a program of specialized and coordinated services for victims of sexual assault during their first contact with the healthcare system. The goal is to provide shelter, safety, and privacy in victim treatment.
The program includes healthcare services, counseling, legal representation, investigation, law enforcement, and psychological care.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation evinced that the patients in the treatment group had a statistically significant number of referrals to victim care services and a higher likelihood of consenting to evidence collection, pregnancy testing, and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, compared to the patients in the control group, who were treated in standard emergency rooms [1].
