Description

This is a school-based prevention program for elementary school students. The aim is to reduce stress factors, the use of psychoactive substances, and violence, while improving decision-making skills.
The program seeks to develop stress management and decision-making techniques through a collaborative intervention among teachers, school coordinators, and psychologists.
The intervention uses the interpersonal cognitive behavioral approach to problem-solving and teaches students in transition to high school to focus on their feelings and the feelings of others (empathy), set goals and plan for the future, articulate problem-solving and contingency management strategies, and develop self-efficacy and confidence.
The program is applied throughout the school year and is structured in three phases: preparation, instruction, and application.

Impact evaluations

An impact assessment showed that the students who took part in the intervention had a greater capacity to react in order to reduce stress [1].
