Description

This is a brief group intervention based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and focused on problem-solving for pregnant teenagers. The aim is to reduce school dropout and meet the needs of teenage mothers.
The intervention is implemented by education professionals and focuses on the training of social and emotional and stress management skills, addressing good academic performance and the completion of studies as fundamental elements for stability and self-sufficiency.
The program lasts eight weeks and is structured in weekly sessions that follow three segments:
1) group discussions;
2) a five-step problem-solving process to identify goals and plan strategies; and
3) clarifying doubts, going into greater depth and reviewing the session.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that, after the six-week follow-up period, the program had a statistically significant impact on school attendance, grade point averages, stress coping behavior and problem-solving skills [1].
