Description

This is a community intervention for former inmates of the prison system diagnosed with a mental health disorder and associated substance use problems. The goal is to reduce criminal recidivism.
The program is based on individualized interventions, which depend on the participant’s state of progress and readiness to change. The services offered are motivational intervention, substance use counseling, group treatment of mental and behavioral disorders, family psychoeducation, self-help groups, pharmacological treatment, medical interventions, and additional services to meet specific demands.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation found that program participants experienced a statistically significant reduction in recidivism and incarceration rates. However, there were no statistically significant effects on the number of arrests, the percentage of participants convicted, days in prison, or the number of criminal recidivism [1].
