Description

This is a meditation program through the practice of yoga for young people over the age of 14 who are at a high risk of dropping out of school. The aim is to improve stress management and emotional regulation skills, strengthen adherence to school, and reduce substance use.
The program addresses the risk factors (emotional, cognitive, and psychophysiological) for substance use in youth through basic yoga techniques, such as breathing, meditation, and specific movement techniques. The intervention is implemented by a specialist instructor and an assistant, and lasts 20 sessions, three times a week for seven weeks.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed no statistically significant differences in the measures of substance use, self-regulation, mood, attention, or coping skills among the young people who took part in the program, compared to the young people in the control group, who did not receive the intervention [1].
