Description

This is a school program for children from kindergarten to sixth grade. The aim is to reduce crime and increase students’ connection with school, improving academic performance.
The program involves creating a school environment that promotes academic motivation, setting achievable goals, building character and morale, and reducing substance use, interpersonal violence, and mental health disorders.
The program includes four interventions:
1) Group meetings in the classroom;
2) A partnership program between students of different age groups;
3) Homework assignments; and
4) Community and cultural activities in the school environment.
Program materials are offered and applied by the teachers responsible for the students, but there are also activities to be done at home, when parents are invited to get involved in the process.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that the program contributed to an increase in support and prosocial behavior. There were no statistically significant effects on negative behavior, harmony, use of alcohol and other drugs, damage to property, theft, or victimization [1].
