Description

This is a law enforcement and violence prevention program associated with violent groups. The objective is to prevent and control homicides committed with firearms in selected cities.
Actions are carried out in neighborhoods with gangs, provided that they present favorable conditions for the application of the strategies envisaged by the program. To this end, the police utilizes a comprehensive model of repression, prevention, and reintegration.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation found that the program resulted in a statistically significant 11.9% decrease in firearm homicides committed by gangs in the year after the strategy was implemented. The study covered a sevenyear span (2002 to 2009) in cities with at least 100,000 inhabitants [1].
