GenerationPMTO (Parent Model Training Oregon)
Description

This is a parental training program for newly-divorced parents and their children ages 2 to 18. The goal is to prevent children from developing mental health symptoms, conduct disorders and/or behavioral problems, such as declining academic performance, involvement in crime, drug abuse, and premature sexual activity.
The program consists of weekly group meetings for training in parenting and social and emotional skills (setting boundaries, supervising children, healthy communication, problem-solving, and emotional regulation). Group facilitators use pedagogical resources that include roleplaying and other interactive activities during 10, 12, or 14 sessions.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation of the program showed that it produced a statistically significant effect in terms of reducing indicators of youth involvement in crime, arrests, and problematic behaviors, as well as improving measures of adult parenting skills. However, there was no effect on parents’ use of appropriate discipline measures [1] [2].
