Description

This is a violent group intervention to reduce armed violence in gang-contested territories.
On weekends, for two months, agents patrolled local parks and public housing blocks adjacent to the target area. They visited the homes of gang members and enforced pending arrest warrants (for violation of liberty or possession of weapons and drugs), reiterating that the intervention was a consequence of the violence committed by the gangs.
The program also included social assistance actions, such as monitoring of offenders by health, social assistance, and housing unit agencies. Rewards were offered to citizens in exchange for information leading to the arrest of individuals linked to violent groups.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that, after 6 months of program implementation, there was a 37% reduction in violent crime in the districts that received the intervention, compared to 22% in the other areas. The intervention also reduced gun and gang crime [1].
