Description

This is a community policing and problem-oriented policing program that aims to reduce crime, disorder and drug abuse, and increase the quality of life in the neighborhood.
Officers met with the local community in a public park to gather information about the main problems in the neighborhood. The focus of the policing was alcohol and drug abuse by young people, and the strategy used included proactive patrols and interventions focused on the offender, such as inhibiting the consumption of alcohol and other drugs in parks and public squares.
Curfews and community watch groups were also applied, increasing the communication between the police and residents, as well as monthly meetings to discuss crime rates and steps to achieve improvements in the neighborhood.

Impact evaluations

An impact assessment showed a significant reduction in vandalism and harassment by drunk and disorderly individuals [1].
