Description

This is a public surveillance program aimed at preventing crime and disorder through the installation of video surveillance cameras.
Those video surveillance cameras were installed in high-crime areas, equipped with night and panoramic vision devices, and the viewing monitors were located in the monitoring center, where the image records were archived for a maximum of two weeks.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that video surveillance produced a statistically significant reduction in overall crime in the monitored areas. No displacement of crime to surrounding areas was observed [1].
