This is a program for the prevention of violence in intimate partner relationships for young people aged 15 to 19 years. The objective is to reduce sexual, physical, online, and psychological violence among young people.
The intervention consists of a highly structured face-to-face session lasting 30 to 45 minutes, where motivational interviewing is carried out by trained community workers with prior experience in education against violence in relationships (social workers, nurses, specialists in childhood and adolescence or substance use treatment). The intervention lasts six weeks.
The program follows 10 steps:
1) Bonding with young people;
2) Awareness-raising about violence in relationships;
4) Assessment of the youth’s readiness to change their behaviors;
5) Discussion of healthy relationship behaviors;
6) Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages associated with behavior change;
7) Identification of barriers to behavior change;
8) Reassessment of readiness to change;
9) Presentation of services oriented to the protection and prevention of intimate partner violence; and
10) Follow-up and review of content through three telephone contacts.
