Description

This is a piece of legislation that was implemented to regulate the blood alcohol concentration limit allowed for drivers (from 0.10 to 0.08). The objective is to reduce traffic accidents caused by drunkenness.
The law reduces the tolerance to alcohol consumption by drivers and increases the possibility of penalties for the crime and costs of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Impact evaluations

An impact assessment revealed a statistically significant reduction in passenger fatalities in crashes after the law was implemented; however, there were no statistically significant impacts on driver fatalities in crashes or on total fatalities [1].
