Description

This is a school-based anger and aggression management training program for children and adolescents, especially those at risk, with behavioral problems, and school performance issues. The aim is to prevent and reduce violent behavior by recognizing emotions and learning alternative techniques for resolving problems peacefully.
The program is implemented daily or twice a week by teachers, trained volunteers, vocational counselors, and trainees in the field of education.
The intervention consists of 16 sessions integrated into the classroom environment and follows three phases:
1) Recognition of anger and aggression in the community;
2) Management and reduction of aggressive and violent behavior; and
3) Defusing other people’s aggressive and violent reactions.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that, after the eight-month follow-up period, the intervention had no statistically significant effects on feelings of anger, on the state of anger (short, temporary bursts of anger), or on the trait of anger (lasting anger) [1].
