Description

This is a tutoring program for low-income high school students with good academic performance. The goal is to increase college entrance and retention rates.
The program consists of regular meetings and contacts between high school students and trained college students to guide young people on college entrance pathways.
Contacts may be face-to-face, by phone, email or social media, and should involve incentives, monitoring, and assistance with timelines and requirements to achieve the following goals:
1) Taking a college admission exam;
2) Completing high school;
3) Developing and reviewing college application letters;
4) Listing colleges of interest;
5) Sticking to deadlines for submitting applications for admission;
6) Competing for public education scholarships and public funds; and
7) Choosing the most appropriate university.
The program lasts 12 months.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed a small positive effect on enrollment rates and the number of months enrolled in college, but no effect on two- to four-year enrollment or on total enrollment or months of college attendance [1].
