Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) - Caregiver Training
Description

This is a psychoeducation program for parents or caregivers of children in situations of social vulnerability who are exposed to domestic violence. The intervention follows a holistic, flexible, and multidisciplinary approach focused on building trust bonds and meaningful relationships.
Program components include:
1) Bonding strategies with children through non-verbal communication and play activities;
2) Mindfulness strategies, in which parents are encouraged to be aware of the emotions and thoughts they bring to their interactions with their children, and to be aware of their own relationship histories;
3) Promotion of empowerment through learning self-regulation skills, body and sensory strategies, and ecological strategies focused on the child’s environment;
4) Promoting adaptation to help children learn behavioral and social skills through proactive and responsive strategies.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that the children of program participants had a statistically significant reduction in behavioral problems and trauma symptoms [1].
