The webinar was attended by:

  • Rodrigo Serrano-Berthet, The IDB's Senior Specialist in Citizen Security and Justice at the IDB.
  • Amanda Glassman, Executive Advisor to the President of the IDB.
  • Joana Monteiro, Director of the Center of Applied Sciences for Public Security, FGV (Brazil).
  • Cynthia Lum, Director of the Center for Evidence-Based Criminal Policy, George Mason University (USA).

On this occasion, the aforementioned experts discussed a series of solutions related to the challenges and opportunities for expanding the systematic use of evidence in the process of formulating, implementing and evaluating security and justice policies and programs in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). More specifically, discussions were focused on 3 main questions: 1. "How can we stimulate the production of evidence on citizen security and justice through scientific research in LAC?"; 2. "How can we encourage the translation of evidence to make it easier for decision makers and practitioners in LLAC to acquire this knowledge and act on it?"; and 3. "How can we encourage the demand for evidence by police agencies, public ministries, courts, prison systems, and municipal and state governments in LAC?".
