Description

This is a follow-up program for adults who have committed non-violent offenses associated with drug abuse, with a probation alternative.
The intervention lasts 11 months and involves individual and group counseling, life skills training, psychoeducation, vocational training, and professional reintegration.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that, after 1 year, 27% of intervention participants had a new conviction, versus 36% of the control group. At 2 years, 34% of participants had a new conviction compared with 48% of control group members. After 3 years, the difference was 35% versus 50% [1].
The 3-year difference generated a 30% relative reduction in recidivism versus the control group. The study had a quasi-experimental design [1].
