Description

This is a program that uses proactive strategies focused on targeted patrolling in hot zones in the city of Indianapolis, United States. The goal is to reduce gun violence by focusing police approaches on seizing and removing illegal weapons from the streets.
To this end, police officers are assigned to work in areas with high crime rates. In those areas, proactive investigations are carried out based on the identification of suspicious activity, such as checks on aggressive drivers, and police raids in drug trafficking areas.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that the program led to a decrease in firearms crime in one of the sectors that implemented the intervention. In the sectors that served as a control group, gun use increased, while homicides increased in the rest of the city [1].
