Description

This is a health education and promotion program for students aged 9 to 11. The aim is to introduce, improve, and reinforce the development of key skills and messages for health promotion and prevention throughout the years.
Parent and family participation are also included as part of the student’s instruction in the main content areas of the program, which include: social and emotional health; nutrition and physical activity; alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; personal health and well-being; safety (unintentional injuries and violence); and HIV.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed that the program led to a decrease in aggressive behavior, an improvement in social and emotional health, interpersonal and drug rejection skills, and better chances of avoiding drug abuse, but no significant effect on prosocial behavior. The study had an experimental design with a sample of 2,512 students, 1,345 in intervention schools and 1,167 in control schools [1].
