Country of application
Description

This is a program for drivers who are repeat offenders associated with drunk driving. The aim is to reduce repeat offenses, improve public safety, and contribute to their quality of life.
To that end, it provides a set of tools to reframe their beliefs and change their behavior in relation to alcohol and driving. Offenders are monitored on a monthly basis by reference professionals, who manage and constantly evaluate each case.
This involves reviewing procedural documents, attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, attending treatment and community activities, as well as paying all fees, fines, and assessments. Participants must also see the judge within 90 days before progressing to a less intensive sentence.

Impact evaluations

An impact assessment showed that the program led to a drop of almost 18% in recidivism involving driving and alcohol, a 27.2% reduction in the cancellation of driver’s licenses, and a 38.4% reduction in traffic violations [1].
