Description

This is a focused-deterrence policing program aimed at high-risk offenders with chronic recidivism histories. The goal is to increase the likelihood of apprehending and convicting offenders, engage various agencies in case management enforcement, and offer various assistance services to individuals.
The focused deterrence team offers a voluntary meeting with the offender, where they are informed of the harm done to the community and the consequences of future offenses, are introduced to resources for needs such as housing, employment, and substance use treatment, and are offered case management services. If the meeting occurs and the offender agrees to the conditions, the team coordinates services with social workers to develop individualized intervention plans and follow up throughout the supervision process.

Impact evaluations

An impact evaluation showed no statistically significant differences in time to conviction when comparing the treatment group to the control group after the 1-year follow-up period [1].
