Tri-Ministry Study

This is a school-based intervention for students up to the third grade. Three programs have been incorporated: the Classroom Social Skills Development Program, the Connected Peer Reading Program, and a combination of those two programs. The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions to prevent and reduce inappropriate and antisocial behavior.

Positive Family Support (PFS)

This is a multicomponent intervention program implemented in the school context, but focused on families with children and adolescents from 11 to 17 years old. The objective is to reduce exposure to risk factors and improve communication and supervision skills in the family.
At the universal intervention level, the program supports and promotes parental supervision of adolescents, and the involvement and management of situations faced by children in their daily lives. Specific motivational interventions are also carried out with the parents of adolescents at a higher risk.

On the Way Home (OTWH)

This is a transitional program for young people between the ages of 12 and 18 at risk of behavioral and emotional problems, who are reintegrated into their families and community schools after staying in foster care institutions. The goal is to promote family stability and prevent school dropout.
The program combines and adapts three interventions:
1) Checking in and connecting;
2) Common sense parenting; and
3) Homework focused on problem-solving during the transition period.

EFFEKT

This is a school-based drug prevention program for adolescents between the ages of 13 and 16.
The program consists of six short sessions of approximately 20 minutes each, in which previously trained teachers show standardized presentations to the adolescents’ parents. The intervention takes place during regular parent-teacher meetings at the schools.

South Dakota's 24/7 Sobriety Project

This is a program aimed at intensively monitoring drivers with a history of conviction for crimes associated with drinking and driving. The objective is to reduce recidivism and encourage abstinence.
The following intensive tests are applied, among others:
1) Breathalyzer tests, twice a day;
2) Anklets that monitor alcohol consumption;
3) Ignition interlock devices;
4) Urine testing.
Failure to comply with the tests or substance-impaired results may result in an arrest warrant or revocation of probation.

Fast Track

This is a program for the prevention of chronic and severe behavioral problems for socially and economically vulnerable children and adolescents.
It includes a universal primary intervention designed for all adolescents in the school setting and a specific intervention for high-risk children, including school tutoring, parent groups, social skills training for children, and home visits.
The program maintains particularly intensive interventions during school transitions, such as the transition from primary to secondary school.

Weed and Seed (Miami, FL)

This is a multi-agency community program focused on dismantling gangs. The goal is to enforce the law, prevent crime, and restore neighborhoods.
The strategy envisioned establishing and maintaining contact with citizens interested in crime reduction, as well as providing additional resources for prevention and problem-solving practices. The gang dismantling initiative targeted two gangs involved in violent crime and drug trafficking. Thirty-eight convictions followed an 18-month investigation of members of both gangs.
