Procedural Justice Training for Police (Mexico City)

This was an experiment in which police officers in Mexico City participated in a training course based on a procedural justice approach. The training was created to better prepare police officers to deal with the extremely complex, emotionally intense, and dynamic situations that police officers face on a daily basis, through the effective assimilation of the principles of procedural justice.

Hot Spots Policing (Jacksonville, FL)

This is a problem-oriented policing and targeted patrolling program to reduce crime in areas with high crime rates by reorienting police resources based on geographic data.
Problem-oriented policing involves the articulation of police teams to solve tracked community problems, applying situational crime prevention strategies and making arrests and detentions in high-crime locations. Problem-oriented patrolling consists of preventing crime by “saturating” high-crime areas with a strong police presence in long-term patrols.

Police-Monitored CCTV Cameras in Newark, N.J.

This is a program for the installation of video surveillance cameras monitored in real time by operators. The main objective is to reduce property and personal crimes on high-crime streets.
The particular purpose of timely, real-time monitoring is to help reduce police response times and increase the chances of apprehending an offender. The targeting of the intervention was carried out under parameters of high crime incidence on streets and in public areas. Several types of cameras were installed, some with high visibility and others with low visibility.

Specialized Courts for Violence Against Women (Spain)

It refers to one of the policies implemented in Spain to facilitate reporting and promote the reduction of domestic violence cases: the creation of specialized intimate partner violence (IPV) courts. These are specialized courts, as the judges assigned to them deal only with IPV cases, and the courts are equipped with specific resources and specialized personnel to provide a less harmful experience for victims, as well as faster and more timely judicial decisions.

Multi-Faceted Enforcement and Prevention Program to Target Gun Violence and Other Violence

It is a multi-agency, multi-agency community policing prevention and enforcement program aimed at reducing firearms and other gun violence in high-crime areas.

This is an experiment designed to evaluate the effectiveness of selective patrol tactics in hot spots with a high incidence of gun violence. Officers assigned to selective patrol tactics were instructed to patrol slowly through the hot spot, avoiding initiating contact unless there was a crime in progress or the safety of a citizen or another officer was at risk.

Public Park Renovation and Revitalization Program (Bogotá)

This is a program for the renovation and revitalization of public recreational spaces, which aims to build safe environments that act as a protective factor by reducing the risk of crime in public spaces. The program was based on the hypothesis that motivated criminal actors interpret dilapidated areas as an indication that state institutions are not present or are not functioning well, leading to a low probability that the offender will be caught, arrested, or punished for committing a crime, and that this would lead to a higher probability of engaging in criminal activity.

Operación Convivencia

This is a program that covered a total of 40 low- and middle-income neighborhoods in Medellín, where the municipal government reinforced its civil apparatus for 20 months by assigning full-time public agents to help organize the communities. The objectives were to improve public order, promote better communication and connection between residents and the government, encourage conflict resolution, and promote access to family and social services. A centralized task force ensured that municipal agencies fulfilled these functions.

Drug Abuse Treatment as an Alternative to Incarceration (DTAP)

It is a treatment program in the therapeutic residential model for people deprived of their liberty who abuse drugs and have been sentenced for non-violent crimes.

The program's approach focuses on abstinence, avoiding relapse and adapting to independent living. The treatment takes place over 21 months and includes assessments, guidance, individual, group and family counseling sessions and vocational training for entering the job market.
