Hot Spots Policing (Jacksonville, Florida)

This study analyzes the impact of different policing tactics carried out in hot spots.
The most common problem-oriented policing strategies utilized included situational prevention measures, such as maintaining railings and gates, increasing street lighting, and using traffic barriers.
Officers worked with shopkeepers, business owners, and landlords to implement crime prevention measures and security protocols at establishments.

Compstat (Fort Worth, TX)

The main objective of the Compstat management system is to develop specialized solutions to fight crime by improving the management of police resources and the functioning of police departments.
The system focuses on four main components:
1) Timely and accurate information and intelligence;
2) Rapid deployment of resources;
3) Effective tactics; and
4) Permanent monitoring.

Work Release Program

This is a social reintegration program to assist incarcerated individuals in the transition process between the closed system and the community.
The service has a less rigid housing structure and allows inmates to work in the community with access to a salary. In addition, the program offers vocational training courses, such as vehicle repair, building maintenance, food services, electronics, printing, carpentry, gardening, hairdressing, plumbing, and cleaning.

Random Drug Testing with Immediate Results and Immediate Sanctions

This is an experiment to evaluate the effectiveness of alternative methods of instant testing to detect drug abuse and determine how the different methods affect relapse and recidivism rates in cases of parolees with psychoactive substance use problems.
The evaluation considered three models:
1) Random drug testing with immediate results and immediate sanctions;
2) Random drug testing with later results and sanctions; and
3) Routine (non-randomized) procedures with later results and also slow sanctions.

Minnesota Comprehensive Offender Reentry Plan (MCORP)

This is a cross-sector program for the social reintegration of prison graduates. The objective is to articulate actions between prison social workers and supervisors that accompany the graduates in the community.
The social worker must conduct motivational interviews, a risk and needs assessment, and joint planning of strategies for access to community services. The supervisors monitor the reintegration of the prisoner into the community, which ensures the continuity of the planning devised during the prison monitoring period.

Interview Approach to Information Gathering

This is a strategy based on the interview method as the basis for gathering information, rather than the accusatory interrogation method. An experimental study sought to determine which method was more effective to obtain valid confessions and minimize false confessions. To do this, researchers compared the accusatory method, common in the United States, with the information-gathering method, common in England [1].
This difference is observed through four elements:

Thinking for a Change

This is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program for the treatment of incarcerated individuals. The objective is to develop interpersonal communication skills and confront thought patterns that can lead to problematic behaviors.
The program has three components:
1) Cognitive self-modification: provides participants with a comprehensive self-reflection process focused on uncovering antisocial thoughts, feelings, attitude, and beliefs;

Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) Police Department Domestic Violence Unit

This is a police unit for handling domestic violence cases in order to reduce future offenses through intensive investigation (e.g., conducting detailed follow-up interviews, identifying/correcting missing information in patrol reports, preparing case materials for the district attorney, etc.) and victim assistance (e.g., filing restraining orders).
