Reading for Life (RFL)

This is a classical literature program aimed at adolescents who have committed non-violent crimes and have been through the juvenile justice system. The objective is to promote youth protagonism in the communities and prevent recidivism.
The meetings are held in 10 sessions, each lasting one hour, with the participation of up to five young individuals per group under the coordination of a mentor. After reading and discussing the contents of the book, participants have the opportunity to apply the lessons learned in community projects.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

This is a cognitive behavioral treatment program for victims of accidents, violence, physical and/or sexual abuse who have developed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or other mental health disorders. The goal is to reduce the symptoms of PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
The program consists of individual therapy sessions to elaborate on the traumatic experience, psychoeducation about the disorder, and learning symptom management techniques. The treatment is conducted by trained psychologists and has an average duration of 8 to 15 sessions, once or twice a week.

DNA Field Experiment

A program for investigating property crime incidents through the collection of DNA-based biological evidence. This evidence must be carefully collected, stored, and sent to a crime laboratory for analysis and inclusion in the investigation process.
The stages of DNA processing include:
1) Preliminary testing carried out through the initial examination and preparation of the sample and detection of human blood presence;
2) Generation of a DNA profile, following the extraction of genetic material from the sample;

Red Hook Community Justice Center: Criminal Court for Adults

This is a community court focused on problem-solving and crime prevention by addressing its contextual causes. The community court model aims to relocate justice away from large centralized courts to local community courts.
In doing so, the court is believed to be able not only to address the underlying causes of crime, but also to increase the community’s perception of procedural justice.
It functions as a multi-jurisdictional court, combining four components:
1) A criminal court, which handles adult contravention cases;

Environmental Prevention Campaign to Reduce DUIs

This is an initiative for the environmental prevention of drunk driving among university students. The initiative includes DUI checkpoints in universities, operated by guards, civil police, and road patrols. It includes media coverage and a marketing campaign developed by students in the university newspaper with the aim of increasing the perception of the risk of being arrested for drunk driving.

Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) Program (Seattle, Washington)

This is a community outreach program that serves drug abusers and sex workers in Seattle. It seeks to redirect this population to care in community-based social programs, avoiding going through the prison system.
They are monitored by a case supervisor, who makes an initial diagnosis. Depending on each case, the supervisors can provide financial support, through access to specific funds, to maintain the basic needs of the user monitored by the program.

The Incredible Years – Child Training Program

This is an intervention program used by counselors and therapists to treat children with behavioral problems, attention deficits, and emotional or internalizing problems.
The program aims to develop social skills and emotional literacy through weekly two-hour sessions (18-20 weeks) with a small group of children and two facilitators. Teachers and parents receive weekly letters explaining the behaviors and concepts being taught to the children, and suggested strategies to reinforce the skills learned.

Harlem (NY) Children's Zone - Promise Academy Charter Middle School

This is a school program that caters to low-income elementary school students with two or three years of school failure.
The school offers an extended school year (210 days) with expanded shifts, after-school tutoring, and additional Saturday classes. Students spend an average of more than ten hours a day at school, which is a 20% increase in the typical school day.

Teams-Games-Tournaments (TGT) Alcohol Prevention

This is an alcohol awareness program for teenagers aged 13 to 18, based on the results of a 50-question pre-test.
Students are classified as high performers (those with a high level of knowledge about alcohol), medium performers (those with moderate knowledge), and low performers (those with no knowledge). They are then grouped into teams of eight members, with two high-performing students, four intermediate-level students, and two low-performing students.

Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS)

This is a brief motivational interviewing program designed to help university students make better decisions about alcohol abuse based on a clear understanding of the risks and problems associated with the consumption of this substance.
The intervention is carried out through two short interviews, which encourage a change in consumption patterns. The style of the program is empathetic, non-confrontational, and non-judgmental.
