Little Village Gang Violence Reduction Project

This is a program against violent groups to reduce lethal violence in selected communities with high rates of violence.
There are five strategies for its implementation:
1) Community mobilization, involving local residents and social organizations;
2) Social intervention, targeting vulnerable young people at risk of joining gangs. This stage includes family counseling, referral to specialized services in the treatment of drug abusers, vocational training activities, and educational or recreational programs;

#Tamojunto and #Tamojunto2.0 Program (Unplugged – Brazil)

This is an intervention carried out in schools in Brazil with the objective of preventing drug abuse among young people. The intervention comprises 12 classes plus three workshops with parents and guardians. The classes are offered by schoolteachers over the course of a school year. It is recommended that the intervention be carried out in the 8th grade of elementary school (average age: 13 years).

Second Step for Elementary School (2011 Edition)

This is a school program to prevent and reduce impulsive and aggressive behavior in children and adolescents by increasing their social and emotional skills.
The program’s elementary curriculum consists of 15 to 22 lessons lasting 35 minutes each, taught once or twice a week.
The content varies according to the grade level and is organized into three skill development units based on:
1) Empathy training;
2) Impulse control
3) Problem-solving; and
4) Anger management.

Rockford Pulling Levers Drug Market Intervention

This is a police strategy that seeks to fight the drug market and deter drug traffickers in high-crime neighborhoods.
The intervention consists of three stages:
1) Identification of traffickers and geolocation of the target territory through an analysis of police data;
2) Investigation, notification, arrest, and trial of violent offenders operating in the area. During the investigation period, offenders were invited to a meeting with community members to discuss the damage caused by drug trafficking;

Reducing Gun Violence: Results from an Intervention in East Los Angeles

It is a police program to reduce gun violence and gangs in communities with high rates of violence.

The intervention implemented patrolling by uniformed police officers in specific geographic areas. It also resorted to stricter enforcement of housing codes, public housing eligibility standards and probation conditions, as well as referral of gun law violations to federal prosecutors.

Shed Program

This program was designed to improve access to employment and income for at-risk young adults living in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The intervention is developed in training stages that include:
1) 300 hours of vocational or technical training, preparing young people for jobs mainly in the fields of construction and welding.
2) 180 hours of academic or basic skills training, which includes reinforcement courses in mathematics and Portuguese.

CCTV in Five English Cities

This is a program aimed at installing video surveillance cameras (CCTV) in urban centers with a concentration of nighttime economic activities and a relatively heavy traffic of pedestrians and vehicles.
The main objective is to prevent crime and disorder in the intervention areas. The cameras operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Any record of criminal activity captured by the cameras is forwarded to the police for intervention.
