New York's Criminal Domestic Violence Courts

This is a program implemented by the Problem-Solving Court to address domestic violence cases. The objective is to deter and ensure the application of sanctions in cases where the offender does not comply with restrictive measures, as well as to meet the needs of the victims.
To qualify for access to one of the 24 specialized courts, a family must have suffered at least one crime related to domestic violence, most often in the form of intimate partner violence.

Operation Hardcore (Los Angeles, CA)

Operation Hardcore prosecutors choose their cases based on criteria that help identify individuals who are repeat offenders of serious violent crimes.
Each prosecutor follows a small number of cases on an ongoing basis and receives additional support from the police and other agencies. These factors contribute to improve witness tracking and early preparation of each case, restricting any pretrial agreements.

Group Violence Reduction Strategy in New Orleans

This is a focused deterrence strategy to reduce gang violence and homicides, in which the New Orleans Police Department conducts informational sessions targeting gang members.
During the sessions, the police informs gang members of the most severe penalties if future involvement in violent actions is detected. Participants are asked to pass this information on to other members of the group.
During those notification sessions, the police also provides information on access to social services in the territory in order to monitor those individuals.

Connections Program (San Diego, CA)

This program utilizes coordinated services to support individuals with mental health disorders who have been released from the correctional system. The goal is to facilitate the process of reintegration into the community and reduce recidivism and substance use through ongoing follow-up.
The program consists of training teams of social workers and police officers to facilitate access to community services and assistance, guide participants during the parole process, and provide more financial stability.

Structured Decision Making (SDM)

This is a case management system that is implemented in tandem with child protective services. The objective is to explore the strengths and address the needs of at-risk children who have been removed from their families to reduce their exposure to maltreatment.
The system consists of implementing objective procedures to improve childcare interventions, such as identification of high-risk children and referral of their families to social services.
The program proposes that appropriate decision-making is achieved through the following components:

Helping Women Recover Program (in a Drug Court Setting)

This is a drug court program aimed at women involved with the criminal justice system. The goal is to provide specific treatment for women and prevent involvement in criminal activity and relapse to substance use.
The program consists of applied cognitive behavioral approaches, experiential therapies (such as art therapy), meditation, and skills training and psychoeducation techniques compatible with the female gender.

Implementation of Federal Sex-Offender Registry Requirements in 14 States

This legislation is aimed at registering persons who have committed sexual offenses against children and the use of this information by law enforcement officers. The objective is to standardize the information system, control offenders, and avoid child revictimization.
The registry includes a photo, name, address, and the crime committed, and is used as a resource for investigations and criminal background checks prior to employment in the childcare sector.

Inspection of the Ban on Carrying Firearms

This is an enforcement strategy related to the ban on carrying firearms, with the objective of reducing the homicide rate. The intervention is part of a larger development, security, and peace program.
The strategy was implemented on weekends after paydays, holidays, and election periods. During the intervention, pedestrian inspection points and traffic barriers were installed around the city. Individuals in possession of firearms during those periods were fined, and their weapons were permanently confiscated.
