Rural Response System to Prevent Violence Against Women in Ghana

This is a program to prevent intimate partner violence by raising awareness in the community and supporting victims.
The teams are made up of people chosen by the community itself and are then trained by the program, implement actions to raise community awareness regarding violence against women, and offer support to victims. Representatives of government agencies are also trained by the program.

MAISHA Female Empowerment and Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Intervention (Tanzania)

This is a microfinancing intervention implemented by non-profit organizations, universities, and community leaders for groups of women with the aim of empowering them and preventing physical and sexual intimate partner violence, as well as preventing the acceptability and tolerance of violence, and promoting an improvement in the attitude and beliefs related to domestic violence.

Functional Family Therapy

This is a brief family therapy and redirection program for young people aged 11 to 18 who are in conflict with the law. The aim is to help them overcome behavioral problems, psychoactive substance use, and involvement in crime.
It proposes the following stages:
1) Commitment, which protects young people and families from leaving the program prematurely;
2) Motivation, designed to change maladaptive emotional reactions and beliefs, as well as to increase hope for lasting change;

New Beginnings (for Children of Divorced Parents)

This is a program for divorced parents aimed at reducing children’s exposure to parental conflict and improving the quality of relationships between parents and children. Parents receive a manual and a DVD where experts explain the content covered.
The sessions last around two hours and include didactic presentations, a skills model program, other parents’ testimonials, a session to practice at home, and a review of how the skills can be worked on with the children. In addition, the program includes two individual sessions conducted by telephone.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters

This is a community mentoring program that aims to provide adolescents with a sense of security and emotional support, as well as to promote social skills and provide assistance to develop school skills. The program connects adult mentors with a child in a situation of social vulnerability, with the expectation of developing a relationship for social support.

Adults in the Making

This is a universal prevention intervention centered on the family with the goal of strengthening the protective factors and self-regulation processes of families, as well as building resilience and preventing the abuse of alcohol and other drugs by African American adolescents.
The interventions seek to strengthen certain parental processes with protective effects on children and adolescents, such as: age-appropriate instrumental (material) and emotional support, educational and occupational guidance, and racial socialization to deal with situations of discrimination.

Great Britain’s National Reassurance Policing Program

This policing program is aimed at collaboration between police officers, other public institutions and neighborhood residents to develop plans to fight crime and antisocial behavior or social isolation.
The activities carried out were: focused policing to reduce and dismantle crime and disorder, inviting the community to join the process of identifying priorities and gathering data, evidence and feedback, and increasing the presence of authorities with easy access to the neighborhood, especially police officers and community leaders.

Hot Spots in St. Louis Residential Areas

This is a hot spot police patrolling approach. The aim is to reduce crime in those areas through increased police presence, without applying specific activities.
The officers intensified stationary patrol and motorized patrol in the areas, while reducing community engagement, foot patrol, car inspection in traffic, and written records. The intervention lasted 5 months, during which the officers occupied the areas for 3 to 4.5 hours a week.

Bandebereho Couples Program in Rwanda

This is a program for couples aimed at reducing physical and sexual violence between intimate partners, promoting women’s health with male accompaniment, modern use of contraceptives, and support to the partner during pregnancy.
The criteria for taking part in the program included being married or living in the same house, having children up to 5 years old or unborn, living near the health centers where the intervention took place, and men being between 21-35 years old.
