Engine Immobilizers

This program consists of specific asset protection strategies with the main aim of reducing car theft by immobilizing the ignition system.
To this end, devices are installed that were designed to prevent vehicles from starting unless they receive the correct signal from the driver. The signal can be communicated by means of an electronic key or other technically appropriate mechanisms.

Police Strategy Combining Community Policing and Problem-Oriented Policing

This is a community policing and problem-oriented policing program that aims to reduce crime, disorder and drug abuse, and increase the quality of life in the neighborhood.
Officers met with the local community in a public park to gather information about the main problems in the neighborhood. The focus of the policing was alcohol and drug abuse by young people, and the strategy used included proactive patrols and interventions focused on the offender, such as inhibiting the consumption of alcohol and other drugs in parks and public squares.

Risk Reduction through Family Therapy

This is an integrated program for adolescents aged 13 to 18 who have been victims of sexual assault and their families. It focuses on post-traumatic stress symptoms and other mental health problems, the use of psychoactive substances, and risky behaviors.
Treatment is individualized, taking into account the developmental factors, the severity of the symptoms, and the cultural background of each adolescent and their family. The intervention involves 18 to 24 weekly sessions lasting 60 to 90 minutes each, with regular checks between scheduled sessions.

Newark Coordinated Community Policing Program (United States)

This is a coordinated community policing program aimed at reducing crime and intensifying community relations.
It consists of home visits by police officers, distribution of police newspapers across the neighborhood, increased police presence to maintain public order, and implementation of projects to reduce urban infrastructure deterioration in the neighborhood.
The program covered an area of approximately 20 residential and commercial building blocks for a period of 10 months.

Officer-Initiated Community Policing Strategy

This is a community policing initiative strategy aimed at reducing crime and increasing community interactions.
The key elements of the initiative are: accountability, collaboration, decentralization, and problem-solving. Police officers were responsible for crimes in their assigned areas and were evaluated on their problem-solving skills.
They worked with local community representatives to identify recurring problems in the area and implement relevant solutions.

Operation Ceasefire in Boston

This was the program that gave rise to the Group Violence Intervention/Focused Deterrence methodology, focused on solving problems associated with violent groups, the sale of illegal weapons, and armed violence in communities with high levels of crime.
Six actions were employed:
1) Focusing the attention on the most violent individuals in the gangs;
2) Meeting with the groups to inform them of the sanctions they will face from the various police and justice agencies;

Maryland Ignition Interlock Program

This program promotes the installation of a device that connects the vehicle’s ignition system to a breathalyzer. The aim is to prevent drivers from driving under the influence of alcohol, thereby reducing the number of traffic violations caused by drinking and driving.
It is aimed at drivers with multiple offenses committed under the influence of alcohol. Participating drivers receive a letter informing them that they have been selected for a driver’s license reinstatement if they agree to take part in the intervention.

Adolescent Girls Initiative in Kenya

This program comprises cross-sector interventions for the social, educational, economic, and health development of girls aged 11 to 15, and is also aimed at preventing teenage pregnancy.
The program has the following components:
1) Violence prevention: groups were set up in each community to discuss violence prevention, with a small fund to implement projects;

Hot Spot Police Patrolling with Predictive Models vs.Crime Analysts

This study compares hot spot patrols that use predictive policing models with patrols that use crime analysts.
In patrols based on a predictive policing model, officers were encouraged to choose the most appropriate techniques to intervene in the predicted areas. Officers in patrols based on the predictions of trained crime analysts applied short-term interventions to small areas indicated based on their emerging problems.
The intervention lasted five to eight months on both police fronts.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s (OJJDP) Comprehensive Community-Wide Approach to Gang Prevention, Intervention, and Suppression Program (United States)

This is an integrated program for gangs focused on young people, their families, and the groups involved. The aim is to reduce crime and recidivism among young people who are socially vulnerable or involved in violent groups. To this end, the intervention includes five strategies:
1) Community mobilization;
2) Social intervention;
3) Offering social opportunities;
4) Social control;
5) Organizational development.
