Launching of the book 'Manual on Evidence-Based Public Safety'.

This July, the "Evidence-Based Public Safety Manual" was launched in Brazil. The book materializes the result of 7 years of research and presents, in a didactic way, the best scientific evidence from Brazil and the world on what works and what does not work to reduce violence, considering concepts, evidence and concrete cases.

The classification of a case as "effective" means that there is consistent and robust evidence (i.e., assessed by research using Maryland Scale Level 5 methodology) that the implementation of the program/initiative contemplated in that case generated a positive impact on the intended and evaluated outcome variables ("outcomes").

Category that brings together a set of initiatives, practices or types of interventions that share the same strategic focus ("what" they intend to do and/or problems they intend to solve or mitigate) and the same forms of action and approach ("how" they intend to address problems and advance their purposes).

Is the Evidence Bank an inventory of IDB-certified programs?

The Evidence Bank was not conceived, nor is it intended to be, a tool for certifying specific programs and/or practices. Its ambition is to facilitate access to the best available scientific knowledge on the effectiveness of some of the main existing solutions in the field of citizen security and justice.

What are the acceptance criteria for the inclusion of new types of solutions and evaluated cases?

The inclusion of new types of solutions and/or cases in the Evidence Bank is done taking into account the following criteria:
- For types of solutions: Existence of at least one systematic review and/or meta-analysis that: i. meets the criteria established by the Prisma Checklist; and ii. has been accepted for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals;
