Directed Patrol and Enforcement Activities Conducted at Firearm Violence Hot Spots

This is a targeted patrol intervention in gun violence hot spots.
Officers were instructed to visit assigned hot spots at least 3 times during their 8-hour shifts and remain in those areas for at least 15 minutes.
During that time, officers were to move slowly through the area, avoiding initiating contact with the public unless a crime or a situation of risk to civilians was witnessed. Intervention was limited to the afternoon and evening hours, when gun violence is most prevalent.

Adolescent Diversion Program (New York State)

This is a redirection program for 16- and 17-year-olds served by the criminal justice system. The objective is to offer alternatives and appropriate services for adolescents, as well as to reduce the application of conventional sentences and, consequently, criminal recidivism and violence.
The program provides rehabilitation services, such as individual counseling, family mediation, substance use and mental health treatment, vocational and training programs, and community service.

Indianapolis Directed Patrol

This is a program that uses proactive strategies focused on targeted patrolling in hot zones in the city of Indianapolis, United States. The goal is to reduce gun violence by focusing police approaches on seizing and removing illegal weapons from the streets.
To this end, police officers are assigned to work in areas with high crime rates. In those areas, proactive investigations are carried out based on the identification of suspicious activity, such as checks on aggressive drivers, and police raids in drug trafficking areas.

Cass County/Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Wellness Court (Walker, MN)

This is a program to monitor adults with substance use problems and a history of multiple offenses/contraventions. Its objective is to reduce criminal behavior and recidivism, improve the well-being of participants, and increase public safety.
The intervention has a minimum duration of 24 months for felony cases and 18 months for serious misdemeanor cases. The actions carried out involve treatment, transition, welfare, and return to the community, as well as judicial sessions.

Independence Youth Court

This is a follow-up program for adolescents between 10 and 17 years of age who are in conflict with the law. The objective is to reduce recidivism and prevent them from entering the traditional justice system. The adolescents are accompanied by juvenile judges, who are responsible for supervising and approving sentences, while the presiding judge communicates with the defendants and their parents after the conviction is decided, ensuring that all parties understand the sentence and the process in general.

Comprehensive Anti-Gang Initiative (CAGI)

This is a law enforcement and violence prevention program associated with violent groups. The objective is to prevent and control homicides committed with firearms in selected cities.
Actions are carried out in neighborhoods with gangs, provided that they present favorable conditions for the application of the strategies envisaged by the program. To this end, the police utilizes a comprehensive model of repression, prevention, and reintegration.

San Francisco (CA) Behavioral Health Court

This is a program developed by the San Francisco Mental Health Court, which specializes in the care of individuals with mental disorders who are in conflict with the law.
The objectives are:
1) To refer criminal defendants with serious mental illness for treatment;
2) To find legal remedies for their charges that take mental illness into account; and
3) To reduce the risk of criminal recidivism.

SafERteens

This is a single-session therapy program for adolescents aged 14 to 18 years who are admitted to emergency healthcare units due to medical problems (illnesses and injuries). The objective is to reduce violent behaviors and alcohol abuse.
Each therapy session lasts 35 minutes, during which specific goals are defined, decision-making exercises are conducted, and roleplaying exercises are practiced. It can be implemented through an interactive virtual resource on a laptop or through face-to-face intervention by a trained therapist.
