National Youth Service Corps Program (Jamaica)

This is a program that seeks to provide young people between 17 and 24 years of age with the skills necessary for professional development. The intervention is carried out through a first phase of technical training (55 hours) and a second phase of internships.
The program was created in 1973. In 1995, after a 12-year hiatus, it was relaunched due to the increase in youth unemployment in Jamaica. It was developed and implemented by the National Youth Service (NYS), a government agency.

Digital Program for Stress Management and Positive Parenting (El Salvador)

This is an intervention program aimed at child caregivers (parents and non-parents) developed by psychologists and early childhood development experts from the NGO Glasswing.
The program was implemented via SMS/WhatsApp in El Salvador in 2020 and had two main components: 1) alleviating caregivers’ stress and 2) reducing violent relationships between caregivers and children.

Youth Villages YVLifeSet

This is a community-based program for young people between the ages of 15 and 22 who have been in foster care or juvenile justice institutions. The objective is to carry out the transition process from those institutions to community monitoring, preparing adolescents for adult life.
The program uses the clinical case management, support, and counseling method, and the actions carried out entail:
1) Money management support;
2) Assurance of safe and adequate housing;
3) School or university enrollment;
4) Training for insertion in the job market;

Safe City

This program consisted of installing a video surveillance system implemented in some areas of the city of Montevideo, starting in March 2013.
The system’s operational actions included:
1) Continuous monitoring of the cameras, carried out by police officers located in a monitoring center, which combines video surveillance technology with a police patrol response action;
2) Direct communication and coordination from the surveillance center with a mobile patrol that monitors the area and, upon observing a crime, immediately heads to the affected area;

Arches Transformative Mentoring Program

This is a group mentoring program for young people between 16 and 24 years of age on probation. The objective is to reduce recidivism and strengthen the link with the community.
The program seeks to stimulate a positive attitude and behavioral changes through open groups, with a frequency of twice a week for six months. The groups are coordinated by tutors, who apply a journaling technique based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and youth development approaches.

Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center

This is an intensive treatment program for adolescents aged 13 to 17 with disruptive disorders and aggressive behavior who live in juvenile correctional institutions.
The program applies multicomponent interventions, such as:
1) Structured incentive system, whereby participants earn points for positive behavior (Hoy-Mañana Program);
2) Continuous evaluation of results;
3) Medication management;
4) Brief family therapy; and
5) Family reintegration services.

National Supported Work Demonstration Project (Multisite)

This is an experimental job readiness program focused on individuals who experience hiring difficulties. The objective is to provide vocational training and reduce unemployment, recidivism, and substance use.
Participants must fall into at least one of the following categories: former convicts, under substance use treatment, school dropouts and/or youth in conflict with the law.
The program is voluntary and offers temporary minimum wage employment to participants in a more supervised and stimulating environment than standard work settings for a duration of 12 months.
