Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Offender Rehabilitation

Cognitive behavioral interventions basically consist of a problem-focused approach that seeks to help individuals identify and change dysfunctional beliefs, thoughts, and patterns that contribute to the incidence of problematic (antisocial, risky, and criminal) behaviors.
Cognitive behavioral interventions fundamentally place a functional emphasis on analyzing behaviors and their relationship to cognitions, in particular the patterns of interpretation of social situations and the decision-making processes followed by offenders.

Body Cameras

Body Cameras (or “body cams“) are small audiovisual recording devices attached to police uniforms to record or transmit images in real time to monitoring centers.
The use of this tool aims to improve the relationship between the police and citizens, reduce abusive uses of force, protect police officers against false reports, produce better quality criminal evidence, and improve training, since it makes it possible to monitor operational execution out in the field.

Ballistic Analysis Technology

Ballistics analysis systems are automated ballistics analysis solutions that store images and information related to bullets and casings from weapons used in crimes in a computerized database to help forensic experts make appropriate identifications and support investigative or even judicial prosecution processes.
The aim is to speed up the gathering of ballistic information in police investigations and the comparison of evidence from a current investigation with previous ones and with weapons used in other (multiple) crimes.

School Dropout Prevention

This type of program aims to prevent absenteeism and dropping out of school through activities that strengthen the bond between the student and the school and improve academic performance, especially during the transition between primary and secondary school. Causal factors related to the school itself, the family, the community environment, and the student are addressed.

Management by Results

Management by Results programs in the field of public security are based on a management model that promotes an intensive monitoring of crime indicators and strong strategic coordination and demand for results. The model is based on the intensive and detailed use of georeferencing, crime analysis, and police intelligence tools, with the aim of verifying the results of different policing strategies in real time.

School-Based Gender Violence Reduction Programs

School-based programs work with students in group sessions, disseminating information and discussing topics such as dating violence, gender relations, and sexual and reproductive education. The number and duration of interventions can vary. There are shorter actions that can take up to 50 hours in total (e.g. “Stepping Stones”) and others that take up to 21 sessions of 28 hours each (e.g. “Fourth R”).
